Quinny Buzz Xtra 2.0 Review

Fashionable and Smart

The recently improved Quinny Buzz Xtra is a head-turning luxury stroller.

Every time I see a mom pushing a Buzz, I have to do a double take because the stroller is so striking and modern looking with a sleek design. It looks absolutely gorgeous.

Quinny is a European brand now available in the United States and demand for this stroller has gone up since it was first introduced into the market. The Buzz Xtra is considered a high-end luxury stroller. Just picture this for a moment: Quinny comes out with trendy new colors every year with constant improvements made to enable it to perform flawlessly while maintaining appropriate safety for your little one. Can you say fabulous?

Quinny has recently made some changes and enhancements with the current Quinny Buzz Xtra without changing the design and function of this remarkable stroller.

Let's take a look in detail at what the Quinny Buzz Xtra stroller has to offer, and keep reading to find out what all these new improved features are and how they can benefit you and your child.

Tell me about the seat

The Quinny Buzz Xtra stroller has nice, thick padding in the seat so your child sits comfortably. It is a wide seat at 13 inches with a 21-inch seatback. The seat sits up high, too. One mom blogger commented that this is her favorite feature because her daughter wants to see everything. She does not have to be the mom at the zoo taking her child in and out of the stroller so they can see the animals.

The seat can be forward facing or parent facing, which gives you some needed versatility. Each side offers two recline positions: Active for the more upright position, and Rest for the reclined position.

Easily detach the seat and switch it around. Your child has an adjustable footrest to support smaller legs, and a padded 5-point safety harness.

Quinny's also included a padded, neoprene swing-away bumper bar. Since it's not foam, it won't come off in chunks if your child bites it.

Can I use the Buzz Xtra with a newborn?

For babies younger than six months old, you will have to invest in the Tukk foldable carrier, sometimes called a carrycot. The Tukk turns your Buzz into a sophisticated, streamlined pram and you get a choice of matching colors. You will be proud to take your baby out on the town!

The other option for little babies under six months old is to have a travel system by using a Maxi Cosi car seat until they can sit on their own unassisted. The Mico Infant Car Seat is the model to you want to get. I can't believe how many colors there are to choose from and they all look brilliant.

And here's a fact for you: the Maxi Cosi Mico is rated #2 in Consumer Reports for 22 lb. capacity infant seats. It earned an excellent mark for crash protection, very good for easy of use and fit to your vehicle using the LATCH system. I like knowing this!

Don't have a Mico? No problem! Just get the multi-model car seat adapter for Safety 1st Onboard Series, Maxi Cosi 35, Graco Snugride, Snugride 32 and Snugride 35 - NOT Click Connect, Chicco Keyfit 22, Keyfit 30. Combi Shuttle 33, Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 30-30 and Britax Chaperone.

What about the sun canopy?

The canopy is a bit different for the most recent model. It used to have a peek-a-boo window at the top and side window panels, but no more. I'm kind of disappointed about that, because I feel like a peek-a-boo window is a standard, and it's just nice to not have to come around to the side to check in on baby.

But I do really like that the canopy slides up and down the frame to adjust for your child's height as he or she grows taller.

An Arizona mommy blogger says that the canopy is the best for real coverage, an important thing in such a hot and sunny climate.

But here is the good part: the canopy is now bigger and comes down much farther than it used to. It has a flip-out visor for additional coverage as well. And another benefit: The canopy adjusts up and down the frame, so as your child grows taller, you simply raise it. Or if you have an infant, you'll want the canopy down lower. I do like that!

What is the performance like?

Recent improvements ensure all around better stability from the wide wheelbase to improved suspension. The wheel base is over two feet wide (26.4 inches), which can feel ungainly for some parents but there have been relatively few complaints. You want stability for your stroller.

The foot brake is rather unique in that you engage the brake with one touch on the right and disengage the brake with one touch on the left. They're color coded to help you remember easily, and flip-flop friendly!

The suspension system over the rear wheels work very well and smooths out the bumpiest rides from going over cracked sidewalks to a stroll on a boardwalk. The foam-filled tires are 12 inches in diameter and the front wheels are 6.6 inches so you won't have to worry about getting a flat, AND walk through the park with ease, as well as some all terrain.

One of the video reviews below shows a daddy taking his daughter out on the trail with his Quinny Buzz Xtra, and I have to say, I was quite impressed!

This stroller has 360° locking front swivel wheels that maneuver beautifully. A one-fingered push is all you need to turn this high quality product on a dime. One review says she can turn her Quinny around inside an elevator. Now that's a tight radius! The lock on the front wheels provides additional stability when taking a stroll over that trail I just mentioned.

How about the fold?

The 2015 edition of the Quinny Buzz Xtra has a new folding mechanism. No longer do you have to bend down halfway over the frame to unlatch the folding mechanism. The sliding levers are still on the sides, but now toward the top near the handlebar. Slide up and the stroller collapses.

The video below shows you at about 12 seconds in, the new folding style.

But perhaps one of the greatest convenience features that makes the Buzz so famous is the unique and revolutionary unfolding mechanism. All you have to do is unfasten the transport hook and push up on the handlebar. It unfolds itself! Easy to fold and unfold; simple as that.

In cold weather though, it may take slightly longer time to unfold because the mechanism uses a hydraulic gas chamber.

Once folded, this stroller is quite compact, even for being on the heavier side. Easily remove the rear wheels for an even more compact size.

Amenities for parents

Parents, you are treated to luxuries, too. The storage basket is bigger than on previous years models and it has easy access from the sides. A zippered pocket in the back of the basket holds small things you don't want scattering about. It holds up to 11 pounds of gear!

Have you ever pushed a stroller and kept kicking the back of it? Or had to stoop down to push? A height adjustable handle slides up or down very easily from 38" up to 42" where you'll find just the right place for your comfort. Tall or short, you're going to love the push.

Where can I find the best price for the Quinny Buzz Xtra?

Checking different web retailers, I have discovered that they all charge about the same price at $600 for the current year model. You can find all  four of the current colors for the Buzz on Amazon. Choose from Black, Grey, Red or Purple.

If you want to get the older version Buzz (2013) you can save about $200 when you buy from this link. I like that there are lots of different color schemes from this year. Check them out.

And now for some video reviews. The first is a daddy's point of view, and he takes his daughter with the Buzz Xtra out and puts the stroller through its paces on that outback trail!

And this next video is quite helpful going over the recent improvements and how this stroller functions.

Here's what others are saying:

Since the newly improved Quinny Buzz Xtra hasn't been out that long, the reviews for it aren't that many. But for the reviews that have come in, parents like the stability.

Because this model is so similar to the previous Buzz 3, the feedback is still relevant.

Across the web, customers are buzzing about the Buzz. Various online retailers have shown that the Quinny Buzz has gotten 4½ star reviews. Why? Happy parents recommend it for the chic style and functionality.

Consumer Reports rates the Buzz at an overall 78% with a Very Good mark for ease of use,  and Excellent marks maneuverability and safety. Testers liked the open and close feature, sturdiness and maneuverability. They didn't like how heavy and large it is and the awkward carry.

One mom named Daisy from Fort Bragg, CA, made the comment that her family could pay for another Buzz if they got a dollar for every compliment they've received.

Customers wrote glowing words about the versatility and multiple seating options.
A mom named Leeann says it's the most versatile stroller she's ever used and she goes on to say it's also the most attractive and easiest to use.
"The option to have the seat face you is I think priceless with little kids. I love it."

One of the most complimented features is the turn-on-a-dime maneuverability. Quite a few reviews talk about the superb handling. Apparently, customers have reported freely pushing the Buzz one-handed, which is always a positive when you're a mom with your hands full.

The rear suspension and air filled tires make a smooth ride for baby. One mother writes in to say that she'll roll over a rather large crack in the sidewalk and her son doesn't feel a thing. Another mom says that the suspension is one of the main reasons she wanted a Buzz. This stroller is an obvious winner for performance.

Mothers write that their babies sleep peacefully when the stroller frame is used for either the Quinny Dreami Bassinet or the Maxi Cosi Mico car seat. Once your little one has grown up a bit, the seat is so soft and comfortable that children just sink into it and feel lovingly cushioned with the memory foam. This is clearly a stroller that is made with babies in mind.

Lastly the main feature that parents are talking about is the easy automatic unfold. This amazing unfolding mechanism works all by itself, which is convenient for parents especially if they're already holding their child in their arms.

Disadvantages

Quite a few Quinny Buzz reviews mention the heavy bulk of this product at 28 pounds. It can be too big folded up to fit into some vehicle trunk spaces. In addition, the wide wheelbase, while providing excellent stability, can make getting into narrow doorways somewhat difficult and for shopping between racks of clothing may pose a problem.

Lack of a cup holder can be a disappointment but you can purchase that separately. Baby also has no snack tray.

Where can I buy the Quinny Buzz Xtra?

My favorite place to buy strollers is on Amazon. While the current year's models are priced the same across most all web retailers, you will find that the price will start to fall as the year goes on and you'll likely find the best deal.

While you strongly consider buying you can also imagine what your friends and family would say if you bought the Quinny Buzz Xtra stroller. Can you just see yourself pushing it with your baby right now?
